Coronado Island 4th of July

Happy 9th of July! If you can’t wish people a great day on the 9th of July when can you? I hope you had a good 4th and enjoyed some time off work and maybe some time with family? We were lucky enough to make it to Coronado Island by San Diego, CA for the weekend and spent a wonderful time with our family that lives there.

I highly recommend that everyone convince their family to live in really magnificent places so that you can all have a great time when you see each other! We spent about three days with my husband’s family and had the most patriotic 4th ever. Coronado has a couple of Navy bases on the island and it is safe to say that the enthusiasm for America carries over to the residents too.

It was a joy to be on an island that has a tight knit community. It is a small island with over 25,000 residents, but there is a small town feel to the island. It also is right across the bay from San Diego so it does not feel too isolated from everything else.

While we were in town we saw the annual 4th of July events. If you have a chance and want a really wholesome 4th of July in the future I would reccoemnd checking out Coronado.

Over the weekend there was a really large 4th of July parade. Apparently anyone can join and dress up as they see fit. We saw every thing from the military to marching bands to locals dressed as Star Wars characters. Later that day there is a big community event where everyone circumnavigates the island on bike. The stress are shut down on the ride and everyone just bikes around. This is my type of biking! I am a nervous biker and knowing that no cars are allowed would be a game changer for me.

Of course there is a lot of fun on the beaches and from the bay side of the island you can see up to 6 different fireworks shows. We stayed at our family’s home and saw three from their balcony.

The vibe was of course patriotic, but also beachy chill. No one was in a big hurry. We had a great barbecue with friends and did yoga and worked out in the yard. We enjoyed several walks to get coffee or just to look at the ocean. It was a very chill and family filled weekend. After 2 years of not seeing so many of our family it was nice just to be in the same city and enjoy some time together.

What did you do for the 4th? Have you ever been to Coronado? What do you like to do there?
